What the day looks like
You tell the dispatcher what the door is doing, roughly where you are, and whether it is a one-car, two-car or golf-cart door. A photo from inside the garage helps and is not required. A technician calls to set a window: the same day for a door that will not open or close, within a day or two for anything else.
On arrival the technician releases the opener and lifts the door by hand. That one move sorts spring problems from opener problems. Then the springs, cables, drums, rollers, hinges, track, photo-eyes and the opener's settings are checked. Nothing is replaced yet.
What the sheet says
For a repair: each part by name and cycle rating, the labor, the total. You read it, you say yes or no. Yes means the work starts and the trip fee disappears into it; no means the trip fee is the whole bill. For a replacement door: the door's model, construction, R-value, color, windows if any, the springs and hardware that come with it, the haul-away, any opener, and a separate line for a permit on the rare job where the opening changes. Lead time is written on it. The quote holds for 30 days and no deposit is taken until you approve a custom order.
What is not on it
Surprises. If a part is found later that was not on the sheet, you hear about it and approve it before it goes in.
Car trapped, door stuck open, or a spring that just went? Say emergency on the call and the next available technician is sent. Leave the door exactly where it is until they arrive.
